namegeneratr.com is a fun, simple and easy to use name generator. You can generate any type of name:

  • business name generator

  • company name generator

  • web 2.0 name generator

Using namegeneratr to generate a new name for you couldn't be simpler: two steps and you'll have yourself a list of new names!

Step 1

Fill the Part 1 list with a bunch of words, or partial words.

Step 2

Enter more words or partial words into the Part 2 list.

Step 3

Select the options you'd like:

Include a space?
Choosing this option will insert a space inbetween the words in the Part 1 list and the Part 2 list.
Include reverse results?
The normal order of combing the words from the Part 1 list and Part 2 list will be "". However, by choosing this option it will also reverse the lists like so "" and include all of those combinations too!
Randomise results?
Choosing this option will place the words in the results list in no particular order, randomising the list for you. This is a good option for long lists and stops all the words starting with 'web' for example, appearing one after each other in the Results list.

Step 4

Once you have some results, and you find something you like, simply click, drag and drop it in the Save List. This list can act as a bit of a 'scratch-pad' while you're going through the list of Results. Once you're happy with the Save List names, click the disk icon below the list and the names will be available next time you come back!

Want to show the names you've come up with?

This can be achieved easily be click the scissor icon, which will copy the list to your clipboard. You can then go into the program you'd like to paste your list into (an email program, notepad or Word for example) and click either CTRL + V or use the Edit > Paste menu to paste the list of names into your document. Easy!

Checking Domain Availability

Found a name that you'd like to buy?

You can check the availablility of a domain name, in your Save List with the following domain registrars:

  • crazydomains.com.au

  • godaddy.com

To switch between the two, click the small arrow to the right of the magnifing glass icon and select your preferred choice.

Select a name from the Save List, and click the magnifying icon, a new window will appear with the results of your domain search.

We found it helpful to generate a list of your favourites business names. Use these as inspiration when trying to come up with your own name.

Made up words?

Your going to have to decide if your willing to have any made up words in your name. Sometimes this can be an advantage when it comes to purchasing your domain name. If you are open to having made up words, make sure you stick to the following rules:

  • It has to be easy to spell

  • It needs to make sense when you read it for the first time

  • It should be easy to pronounce

  • Consider how other countries may pronounce it

Scoring Sytem

Using namegeneratr.com to generate names, there's no doubt you'll come up with many great names.

Consider choosing 5 to 6 words that you want your business to do. You should feel good about these words, and they should describe key aspects of your business.

Once you have these words, rate your potential new name against the words and give each a score out of 10. Once you've finished, add them up (to give a score out of 50 or 60 - depending on the number of words you chose). The score might help you to decide which name is better, or which name has more meaning.

Should a name be meaningful?

There is no hard and fast rule here, it's personal preference.

Ask yourself the question, "what does the name mean?". You can be sure you're new clients will ask you, and you have to be comfortable with the answer, sometimes a name with meaning will give you more substance.

Some say a name that has an obvious link to the industry you're in is a positive thing (for example, web for a Web Development firm), others say names don't have to have any link to the industry you're in or have meaning, only that it needs to be easy to spell and remember.

Changing your name is a big thing, so just be sure you put enough time into thinking it through and choose the right name for you!
